Truck dispatch FAQ
Short answers to what carriers ask us most. Each group links to the page that covers it in full.
What does dispatch cost?
5% of gross for most single trucks with 6+ months of authority, 7% for a new MC, 26 ft box truck or hotshot, and 4% per truck for fleets of two or more.
Is there a setup fee or minimum?
No setup fee and no monthly minimum. The fee applies only to loads you confirmed and hauled.
What if the truck doesn't run for a week?
You owe nothing that week. No loads, no fee.
Is there a contract?
Month-to-month. Cancel with 30 days notice.
Booking and control
How dispatch worksDo I have to take every load?
No. Every load is an offer you confirm or pass. Nothing is booked without your yes.
Who gets the rate confirmation?
You do, straight from the broker, so you read and sign the real terms yourself.
Can I keep my own brokers?
Yes. Tell us who they are and we'll book around them. Setups stay under your MC.
Do you handle check calls?
Yes, so brokers stop calling you while you drive.
Equipment
Dispatch by equipmentWhat equipment do you dispatch?
26 ft box trucks, dry vans, reefers, flatbeds, step decks, power only, hotshots, car haulers, dump trucks, oversize and hazmat or tanker.
Do you dispatch box trucks under 26 ft?
No. Box trucks must be exactly 26 ft. See box truck dispatch.
Do you dispatch cargo vans or sprinters?
No, never.
Do you dispatch dump trucks?
Yes, hourly, per-ton and per-load work. See dump truck dispatch.
Getting started
New authority dispatchWhat do I need to start?
MC and USDOT numbers, a certificate of insurance, a W-9, truck and trailer details, and an NOA if you factor.
Can you dispatch a brand-new MC?
Yes, at 7%. Some brokers wait 30 to 90 days, so we start with the ones that don't.
How fast do offers start?
Once broker packets are approved, which can be within days of the setup call.
Factoring
How freight factoring worksDo you do factoring?
We're not a factoring company. We refer carriers to RTS Financial and may be paid for referrals.
Can I use dispatch and factoring together?
Yes. We add your factoring company's NOA to every broker packet.
DOT rules
DOT drug testingDo I need a drug testing program?
Only if a driver needs a CDL for the truck. Then 49 CFR Part 382 requires random testing. Non-CDL trucks aren't covered.
Do I need a USDOT number?
For interstate commercial vehicles at 10,001 lb or more, yes, and many states require one for intrastate trucks too.
Still have a question? Ask a dispatcher.
Or apply in about 2 minutes and ask on the setup call.
