Construction and aggregate

Growth around the big metros drives site work, paving and aggregate hauling. Dump trucks, flatbeds and hotshots stay busy close to home.

Texas freight

Texas truck dispatch service for every kind of truck

Texas freight is wide enough that almost every equipment type has steady work somewhere in the state. Here's where each one tends to earn.

  • Dump trucks

Site work, paving and aggregate around Dallas-Fort Worth, Austin, San Antonio and Houston. See dump truck dispatch.

  • Hotshots

Oilfield parts and equipment to the Permian and Eagle Ford, plus construction runs in the metros.

  • Flatbeds and step decks

Pipe, steel, building materials and machinery to job sites and well sites.

  • Dry vans and reefers

Cross-border freight from Laredo, distribution center loops in DFW and Houston, produce from the Rio Grande Valley.

  • 26 ft box trucks

Final mile and partials in the big metros, where Texas growth keeps delivery volume high.

  • Tankers

Fuel and chemical freight around the Gulf Coast and refining areas, with the endorsements to match.

Texas paperwork

Texas paperwork: intrastate authority, weights and permits

Hauling only inside Texas has its own rules on top of the federal ones. Here's what Texas carriers ask about most, with the official source for each.

  1. 01

    TxDMV number for intrastate work

Carriers operating a vehicle or combination over 26,000 lb in Texas intrastate commerce register with the TxDMV Motor Carrier Division for a TxDMV number, through the state's credentialing system. Start at TxDMV: becoming a Texas motor carrier.

  2. 02

    Intrastate insurance

TxDMV lists a $500,000 minimum liability for private or for-hire intrastate carriers over 26,000 lb. Brokers and shippers often ask for more, so check their requirements before you buy the minimum.

  3. 03

    USDOT number

Texas intrastate carriers above the weight threshold also need a USDOT number. Interstate carriers need it plus federal operating authority.

  4. 04

    Weight limits

Texas generally uses the familiar 80,000 lb gross, 20,000 lb single axle and 34,000 lb tandem limits on its highways, with exceptions for certain roads, vehicles and permits. Check the truck weight limit checker and confirm with TxDMV or TxDOT before you load heavy.

  5. 05

    Oversize and overweight permits

Permits for loads over legal size or weight in Texas are issued by the TxDMV Motor Carrier Division. Start at TxDMV oversize/overweight permits.

Seasons

Texas seasons and weather that change the plan

Summer heat is hard on reefers, tires and drivers, and it shifts loading to early mornings at a lot of job sites. Hurricane season on the Gulf Coast, roughly June through November, can shut down ports and refineries for days and then flood the market with recovery loads.

Harvest freight runs out of the Rio Grande Valley and the Panhandle at different times of year, and construction keeps going through most Texas winters, apart from the occasional ice storm that stops everything north of San Antonio for a few days.

We plan Texas weeks with those swings in mind and tell you when weather is likely to change a lane before you confirm a load on it.

Before we book

What we check before a Texas load reaches you

Checked on Texas loads

  • Interstate or intrastate, and whether your credentials match
  • Weights against your axles and the route
  • Oversize or overweight permits needed, and who pays
  • Border loads: the documents and crossing times at Laredo or El Paso
  • Oilfield site access, safety training and gate rules
  • Heat-sensitive or hurricane-affected lanes that week

“Texas is too big to dispatch well from somewhere else.”

Texas is big, which is why a good plan starts with your home base and the corridors you want to run, not the whole state. We don't claim a Texas office. What we offer is a desk that knows where the freight moves, works the brokers on your lanes, and sends you the offers to decide on.

FAQ

Texas truck dispatch questions

Do you dispatch trucks in Texas?

Yes: owner-operators and small fleets based in Texas or running Texas lanes, across every equipment type we dispatch. Tell us your home base and the corridors you want, and the setup call covers what we're seeing there.

Do I need TxDMV authority for intrastate hauling?

If you operate a vehicle or combination over 26,000 lb in Texas intrastate commerce, yes, you register with the TxDMV Motor Carrier Division for a TxDMV number and keep the required insurance on file. Interstate work needs federal authority instead or as well.

Can you find dump truck work in Texas?

Yes. Texas metros run a lot of site work, paving and aggregate hauling, paid hourly, per ton or per load. Work depends on the season, the projects in your area and weather. We plan around job days and send you each job to confirm.

Do you dispatch oilfield loads?

Yes, for hotshots, flatbeds, step decks and tankers. Oilfield freight moves with drilling activity, so volume can swing. Slow-paying operators are common, which is why some owners look at oilfield factoring.

What are Texas truck weight limits?

On most Texas highways, 80,000 lb gross, 20,000 lb on a single axle and 34,000 lb on a tandem, with exceptions for certain roads, vehicles and permitted loads. Always confirm limits for your route with TxDMV or TxDOT, and never run over your legal or permitted weight.

What does Texas dispatch cost?

The same as everywhere: 5% of gross on loads you haul with 6+ months of authority, 7% for a new MC, 26 ft box truck or hotshot, 4% per truck for fleets. See the fee schedule.
