Ohio figures: Ohio Turnpike and Infrastructure Commission, news release: New Toll Rate Schedules Begin in January 2026, checked 2026-10. Tolls change, often every January; confirm with each authority before you quote a load.
$59 in tolls on this run. Our dispatchers count tolls when they negotiate a rate, so the offer you confirm already accounts for them.
Get toll-aware load offersHow it works
The estimator adds up toll segments for one trip, once with transponder pricing and once with cash or toll-by-plate pricing, and shows the difference per trip and over the year.
| Number | Formula |
|---|---|
| Trip tolls (transponder) | Sum of each road's transponder toll |
| Trip tolls (cash or plate) | Sum of each road's cash toll |
| Saving per trip | Cash total - transponder total |
| Saving per year | Saving per trip x trips per year |
| Tolls per loaded mile | Transponder total / loaded miles |

The Commission's class chart decides which class your truck falls in; check it against your axles and height before relying on Class 5.
Other toll authorities
Use each authority's own toll calculator for your vehicle class, then add the result as a segment:

- New York State Thruway
- Indiana Toll Road
- Illinois Tollway

Worked example
EXAMPLE: a run from western Pennsylvania to Chicago that uses the full Ohio Turnpike westbound plus an Indiana Toll Road segment you looked up at $70 transponder and $72 cash. Trip tolls: $128.75 with a transponder, $146 cash, a $17.25 saving per trip. Run it 50 times a year and the transponder saves about $860.
Tolls and your rate
Tolls are a real cost per mile on some lanes and zero on others, so a flat rate per mile can hide them. Add them to the trip before you counter a broker's offer, or ask whether tolls are reimbursed. Our dispatchers factor tolls into the rate before an offer reaches you.
Questions about this calculator
How much are tolls for a semi truck?
It depends on the road, the axle count, the distance and how you pay. EXAMPLE: the full 241-mile Ohio Turnpike westbound costs a Class 5 truck $58.75 with E-ZPass or $74.00 cash or card in 2026, per the Ohio Turnpike Commission. Other roads publish their own schedules and calculators.
Does a transponder save money on truck tolls?
On most toll roads, yes. On the Ohio Turnpike in 2026, a Class 5 truck saves $15.25 westbound with E-ZPass versus cash, about 21%. Many authorities also charge more for toll-by-plate billing. Check each authority's rates for your class.
How are trucks classed for tolls?
Most toll authorities class vehicles by axle count, and some by height or weight as well. A 5-axle tractor-trailer is usually in a higher class than a 2-axle box truck. Look up the class chart of each road you use, since classes don't match across authorities.
Who pays the tolls on a load?
Usually the carrier, unless the rate con says the broker reimburses tolls. Build tolls into your rate when you negotiate, and ask before you accept a load routed over expensive toll roads.
Why does this estimator only list one road?
We only show toll figures we've checked on the toll authority's own published schedule, with the date. For other roads, use the authority's own calculator (linked below) and add the figure as a segment.
